Custom Controls
PLC, HMI, and control systems built to match your machines and your plant
We design and build PLC/HMI panels, integrate sensors and safety devices, and tie everything together so your equipment runs the way it should. From stand-alone machines to full lines, our controls team builds systems that are practical, serviceable, and easy for operators to use.
What our Custom Controls team does
Our controls group designs and builds PLC and HMI systems that fit the real world you run in every day. We handle everything from small stand-alone panels to complete lines with coordinated drives, safety, and field I/O — all matched to your standards and documentation requirements.
Because controls live in the middle of fabrication, hydraulics, and mechanical design, we work closely with the rest of the shop so wiring, layouts, and maintenance access all make sense once the machine is on your floor.
- Design and build PLC/HMI control panels, operator stations, and junction boxes
- Sensor, valve, and device integration — proximity, photo eyes, encoders, safeties, and more
- New machine controls, retrofits, and upgrades to existing equipment
- Coordination of VFDs, servo drives, and motion where needed
- Panel drawings, schematics, and documentation aligned with your plant standards
How the controls project process works
- Requirements & review – We look at your existing equipment, drawings, and goals, then define what the controls need to do: I/O count, safety levels, communication, and operator needs.
- Panel and system design – We lay out panels, choose PLC/HMI hardware, specify devices, and develop schematics that match your plant standards and maintenance preferences.
- Build & wiring – Panels are built in-house, wired, labeled, and checked before they ever leave our shop.
- Programming & testing – We program PLCs, HMIs, and drives, then test as much as possible on the floor here so commissioning goes smoother at your facility.
- Startup & support – We support installation, debug, and any changes needed during startup, and can provide updates or additions as your process evolves.
You can bring us in for a new machine, an aging panel that needs to be replaced, or a controls clean-up project that makes an existing system easier to live with. Either way, the goal is the same: safe, reliable controls that operators and maintenance can trust.
Why choose Troyer Brothers for custom controls?
Controls are only one part of the machine — so we don’t design them in a vacuum. Because fabrication, machining, hydraulics, and assembly are all under the same roof, your controls decisions always stay grounded in how the equipment is actually built and serviced.
- Real-world experience – Panels and programs built by people who also build and debug machines on the floor.
- One shop, fewer hand-offs – Mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical work happens together, which cuts delays and reduces finger-pointing.
- Service-friendly layouts – We design for access, labeling, and documentation so your maintenance team isn’t fighting the panel.
- Flexible engagement – From full turnkey systems to controls-only support for your in-house engineering team.
We can help with anything from a single control panel to a complete line upgrade, including safety, communications, and integration with upstream or downstream equipment.
